The manual goes wiki :!:

Posted by fplanque on Mar 30, 2004 in b2evolution.net

The end user documentation for b2evolution has been transfered to a wiki.

We thought this was the best way to allow anyone interested in keeping the documentation up to date to contribute. So if you want to share what you have learnt from working with b2evolution, you’re welcome to write about it somewhere on the Wiki. ;)

The wiki software used is Wacko, which is not perfect, but we had PHP Wiki before which was even worse! :| Maybe we’ll change again, once we have identified something really better.

Thanks to Travis for originally installing several Wiki versions and to Vegar for filling it up. Now we are waiting for you! :)

Antispam Deluxe :idea:

Posted by fplanque on Mar 15, 2004 in New features

Antispam Deluxe is probably one of b2evo 0.8.7’s greatest new features. Everything you need to sweep out referer and comment spam from your blog.

First, of course, you can delete any lousy referer or comment with a single click. But there’s much more!

When you identify a spammer URL in your stats or your comments, you can click on the "ban" icon next to it. This will 1) erase *all* referers and comments that use that URL and 2) record that URL in a blacklist so that new spam attemps promoting this URL get automagically blocked! Nice? Wait, there’s still more! :!:

You can automatically report that newly banned URL to a centralized blacklist on b2evolution.net… and download updates reported by others! This way, you get spam signatures and block them before they even reach your site! B)

Finally, if you feel some downloaded blacklisted URL or keyword is blocking legitimate sites, you can easily remove it from your local blacklist.

Please note: By using b2evolution.net’s central antispam blacklist (reporting spammers to the central blacklist and/or updating your local blacklist from the central list), you agree to be bound by the following terms of service:

ept the administrators of b2evolution.net’s judgement about whether a certain entry should be blacklisted or not.

  • You will not complain about the keywords and domains listed in the central blacklist. You will not file suit against the administrators of b2evolution.net if your domain is blocked by an entry in the central blacklist.

  • These terms of service may be changed without notice.

    Yeah, well you know what we mean: we do our best but we cannot guarantee we always make 100% wise decisions, so you must decide wether you want to join us or not on this.

    Forums on the move

    Posted by fplanque on Mar 14, 2004 in b2evolution.net

    The forums have moved to the same server as the main site, generously provided by Travis S and Domain51.

    Until DNS caches update, you may still be accessing the old forums, which are now closed. So if you get a "board unavailable" message, just try again a few hours later.

    The forums were previously hosted on a server generously provided by Jason Murphy, but he’s switching to a different hosting scheme and it doesn’t fit that well with hosting the forums. It was good while it lasted, though. Thanks Jason!

    Now we rely fully on Mr Travis who agreed to host everything. Thanks to you Travis! B)

    However, in order to take some server load off of Travis and also to have some kind of failure security, it would be nice to have another host for the forums. Anyone interested in contributing some of his hosting bandwidth to the b2evo project? :?:

    b2evolution 0.8.7 "cream" released

    Posted by fplanque on Mar 12, 2004 in New releases

    Terrorist attacks yesterday have taken a lot of joy away from us announcing the release of b2evolution version 0.8.7.

    You can download it here.

    This is a beta release and has not been fully tested, however it includes quite a few features you’ll soon wonder how you could have lived without until now! :P Besides, we are using this version on several production servers already, so don’t worry too much.

    Major additions are:

    • AntiSpam Deluxe: Get rid of referrer and comment spam thanks to a community maintained spam database (more on this later);

    • Pruning of old stats;
    • MMS Moblogging support;
    • Backoffice relooking;
    • Ping to Technorati.

    Special thanks to Vegar aka “Funky M” who probably did more coding than myself for the past few months. And big thanks also to all other contributors! B)

    Note: if you want to upgrade from the original b2, please use version 0.8.6.2; you can still upgrade to 0.8.7 later.

    Forums will be moving soon

    Posted by fplanque on Mar 11, 2004 in b2evolution.net

    The forums will move to a new server shortly. You may not be able to access them for a few hours/days due to DNS update latency.

    Since the main site and the forums are hosted at different hosting companies, the main site will not be affected by this transition.

    We’ll let you know about the forums transition progress right here.

    b2evolution 0.8.6.2 "snow" released

    Posted by fplanque on Jan 14, 2004 in New releases

    Finally, version 0.8.6.2 has been released. You can download it here.

    This release is dubbed "snow". Why that? First because of the season :) And I hope snow will stay long enough for me to get a couple of snowboard rides in February! :P But also because snow is clean, snow is pure (well, that is before the cars roll all over the place) and this release has been made as clean (read bug free!) as can be! :D

    Unless I screwed up with the packaging and included the wrong files, this version is the most stable ever released to this date.
