InMotion hosting has been providing businesses with web hosting since 2001 from their offices in Los Angeles, CA and Virginia Beach, VA. They do not outsource tech support -- all support is done from their Virgina Beach office.
They are the only host in this price range to give you the option of hosting from two geographically different data centers - one in downtown L.A. and the other just outside of Washington, DC.
Having the option to choose a datacenter near you can save you a lot of time if your business heavily relies on interacting with your website backoffice during the day.
InMotion's position is definitely oriented towards business hosting rather than personal web hosting. They offer the whole range of hosting plans from starter shared hosted plans, to virtual private servers to dedicated / managed servers.
Our InMotion test site showed to be very responsive.
We were able to perform 10 simultaneous FTP transfers, which is outstanding and makes site maintenance extremely fast.
InMotion uses the industry proven cPanel architecture. No surprises there. The default settings allow for good operation without running into annoying limitations.

Our satisfaction surveys show that what their customers appreciate the most is the quality of the tech support.
This concurs with our own findings that InMotion Hosting focus on the latest proven stable version of server software components in order to provide their clients with the highest stability and a seamless experience.
We have also noticed that InMotion was rated "A+" by the Better Business Bureau (L.A.) which is excellent and sufficiently rare in the hosting industry to be noted.
Overall, the platform is state of the art (16GB or 32GB of RAM, 2 Quad Core Xeons, 15,000 RPM SAS Hard Drives...)

I’ve hosted http://cuentosparadormir.com a large website (more than 100K pageviews a day) featuring stories for children, with InMotion for more than 6 years. That is a lot of time for many things to happen (update plans, security incidents, outages, hardware problems, etc…) Overall I’m very satisfied, although their technical support excellence (time ago they were the best of the best) have decreased a bit in the last 2-3 years.
For the first time in so many years, a few months ago they did a very bad work during a server move that created me lots of truoble. I were really angry at them, but I have to admit they did their best to repair the damage and to investigate the root cause of the issues. Their final report apologizing and admitting their errors, while explaining them transparently and in detail (I am an expert in this field, I would have known if they would have tried to fool me), was an actual evidence that they care about their customers and do not treat them like if they were stupid (which is something that happens a lot, specially in services related to complex technical events)
I had an issue installing Wordpress on my site and the tech support was patient enough to work through the problem with me. I thoroughly was satisfied with the solution they helped me acheive!
I must say thanks to your team for the good work he do for me. Your team take time to answer my question (live chat) and resolved my problem on our server. Each time i need help for our server, your team is ready to help me….

I think having zero downtime or any type or server fault would be unrealistic, even using VPS. What I find most notable with IMH is the great tech service, 24/7, by phone or by e-mail and their ability to help resolve all the issues in a timely manner.
Our office’s human resource is limited and we need to focus on sales. Using IMH has helped us to almost eliminate e-mail & website issues and freed our time to focus on our business.
I’ve been using InMotion for several years and the customer service has been excellent. The online chat is super easy and you can call and get a live person 24/7. I’ve yet to have a bad experience.
This is the best customer service from any type of business I have received. My most recent interaction was 12/25/13 at 10:30pm, I mistakenly deleted a tool that I needed. I was prepaired to wait 24 to 48 hours for help because it was after all Christmas night. I received an email immediately after sending in my support request to acknowledge it was received, within 26 minutes on Christmas night my mistake was fixed. I can’t think of any other customer service that would be so quick to respond and fix the problem, 26 minutes needs an A+++ rating. Thank you Inmotion!

InMotion detected an unwarranted access and took protective measures. They notified me and helped me get the site back up ASAP. I did suffer some downtime but that is an acceptable price to pay to avoid an unknown compromise to the site. I’m glad for the kind and persistent help to get things back to normal in a single call.
I’ve used this company for over a year without any outages, so I was surprised when I couldn’t access my site one day. The support chat system was very convenient, and the problem was resolved in only a couple of minutes. Very pleased with the service and support.
I haven’t had many problems at all with InMotion hosting except for ones I usually created myself. That being said, Customer support has always been there ready to help and fixed any problems I have encountered in an expediant manner.
Only been with inMotion for a year, but not a single problem. My previous host would have been down a dozen times during that period. Good work! Keep improving.
For the fifth or sixth time, Inmotion has imposed what is for us a totally unnecessary emergency upgrade to the infernally buggy cpanel system which we have never used anyway, and in the process replaced our dedicated apache build by the cpanel one which, unsurprisingly, has nothing to show the world but its empty home directory.
In the process, Inmotion knocked our two hosted web sites offline. When we sought help, we were greeted, as always, with the same totally irrelevant and crassly ignorant garbage about DNS that they feed us every time.
I can’t see any reason to stay with InMotion. Once we finally get through the process of reaching a Tier-3 administrator, they’ll just tell us it won’t happen again, but no doubt it will.
This carbon copy compound repeat offence proves that Inmotion can’t be entrusted with the site in the longer term.
Needed to get whois protection to my site. Hit the “Live Chat” button, wait was short (usually no wait at all but this time I used live chat during peak hours) and help was straight to the point and everything was taken care of very quickly. Service was great compared with customer service on other hosts I have used throughout the years.
Been using InMotion Hosting for over a year now to manage two domains, never had a problem. The amount of control over my site is immense and the options (as many as they are) are laid out in the best way I have ever seen any host done. It really lets you dive deep into customization without pulling you hair out over trying to find how to enable a certain protocol or option you want.

I have just bought a site and have used the help line twice.
First because I ordered the site in the middle of the night and they wait to certify your purchase until business hours unless you call in to activate it immediately. I called in, and was helped immediately. Great experience.
Next I had a login/password question for some of the software I installed…it was late so I opted for the chat function. “David” helped me quickly and was very polite. So far I’ve been very pleased with the service provided by this host.
This is my first time using a web hosting site, but I did my research before hand and decided to go with In Motion. It was a great idea because I have been so successful with them. So far they have been extremely helpful with any question I have, large or small. They are patient with me as I navagate through things and have helpful resources for me to use after the phone convorsation is over. I am very glad that I made the choice to use In Motion Hosting!
Today, David was very helpful with my problem that really was not an InMotion issue but rather a local email server software issue. I did not know that when I called. David was very helpful in checking on the InMotion side to confirm that the problem could not be solved on the InMotion side & then told me what to do. Problem solved in record time.
Poor reliability lately. Dunno why. All I get from tech support is stock stuff – “maintenance, server down, don’t know when it will be back up.” Second long outage in less than a week. I’m headed for the door if up time does not improve.
After my website has been down numerous times, I’m moving my site to another hosting company! It’s ridiculous that a hosting company that is ranked in the top 10 will have a website down for days and keep sending excuses as to why it has to “propagate” before it can be live again. Nonsense! This has gone on since the day I signed on with them.
I am looking to move my domain hosting as well as website maintenance to a new location, and have been shopping for a new service provider. I have been trying to wrap my head aroun InMotion’s multiple pricing menues, and it gives me a headache every time. Their small business “power” and “pro” packages are a come on with very low monthly pricing, then they hit you with additinal expenses, that ramp monthly costs from the advertized $6.95 to over $100 rather quickly. I still like their technology, but I find their pricing is like going to a used car lot!
Like any big company, you as a customer don’t mean anything to them. We were paying for dedicated server for 3 years and when someone made a complaint to the the brand distributor running on one of our sites, their policy is simple, they suspend your entire server and dont even e-mail you about it. After you find out that all your site are down because of one site that had some counterfeit items listed on it, you contact them and they tell you write to email@example.com and that they can do nothing to help you.
I just recently signed up with Inmotion and am glad I did. Tech support is knowledgeable, positive, and interacts with “go the extra mile” responses. Thanks for being who you say you are!
They are really are amazing for us especially their C Support, we don’t have to wait for long, chat has less than 2 minutes queue mostly.
we use many hosting provider with many sites and many functionality and only 2 we consider very great. Inmotion is one of it.
They provide very fast response and announce if it’s going to go down.
In VPS, they are very reliable right, we almost can say we have almost 100% up time even when we rely heavily on MySql since we are is Motor Dealers that rely much on our sites for information and running fully on working hour every day, almost no holiday.
one things is less great about them is that on business packet we can’t use trigger for MySQL. Else than that, this is almost perfect for us. more than 4 years of our time with inmotion is quite a great experience.

I just had my domain registration moved from Network Solutions to InMotion Hosting (Melbourne IT) using Inmotion Hosting’s concierge service. I just wanted to say this service, although new to Inmotion Hosting, was performed by your staff very well. The tech reps were very knowledgeable and professional, and the process required very little involvement on my part. I think my involvement was only required because of restrictions imposed by Network Solutions. In only five days, the registration change is complete and occurred without incident. My webmaster is out of the country. Yesterday my website and my email crashed twice. InMotion solved the first crash immediately. The second one was actually an internal database problem, peculiar to our website, but the thing that amazed me is that InMotion had one of their technicians go into my website, figure out the coding my webmaster designed and actually fixed my problem at no extra charge. This was above and beyond the call of duty! Their entire staff was very helpful.

Regarding Inmotion. I highly recommend there customer service to small business users. I host wordpress sites with them and they are always very helpful and supportive whenever I contact them. I recently deleted a file by accident. I contacted their live chat support and with 15 minutes my file (full of photographs) had been restored to my site.
I am blown away by the incredible customer service I’ve received from inmotion hosting. Not only was the process of getting set up and moving my hosting from another provider seamless, but the amount of time Technical Support (and Chrystyan in particular) spent chatting with me was extensive and far exceeded my expectations. Email is my connection to business deals, event coordination, friends and family. When the account had been acting up for over a week, I was getting really frustrated. I called Inmotion and pleaded “help!".
The call was a long one, because staff member, Terrance, had to walk me through things that I would not have been able to find on my own. He kept saying “thank you for your patience", when it was me who was feeling grateful for his patience with me! We’d try an option, and that would rule out one reason for the account’s bizarreness, and then we’d try another.
When the account finally decided to come alive and on-line again, and send and receive like it should do, it was a “hallelujah moment". The problem was in fact, easily solved, but there’s no way I could have found the solution without Terrance’s patience, and perseverance. Thank you so much!!
I’ve been with Inmotion for 12 years, and have 3 websites hosted by them. Inexpensive, excellent tech support, reliable website hosting….this is why I stay with them, and recommend them to others.

Just wanted to put up a quick post to share my experience with inmotion hosting. I am in the process of transitioning from bluehost to inmotion and have had quite a fair amount of tech questions along the way.
I had always thought bluehost provided great customer/tech support but it doesn’t even come close to the support inmotion offers. One particular individual I want to acknowledge is ShaylorM - who helped me with some complex questions and solved them all for me. I am a fairly tech savvy individual and ShaylorM helped me figure things out I couldn’t! Thank you again Shaylor!
