Worst service!
There a limt for inodes, until to 100.000. If your site has more than this year, you will do not have backup and if this number pass to 200.000, your site is blocked without previous warning, and they start a literal process that I classify as hosting terrorism….
something like this: “..dear customer if you do not clean and remove inodes until 200.000 your account will be suspend in definitive mode…”

Can you imagine what kind of felling, a customer of Hostagator fell when receive a message like this?

I do not recommend for anyone!
And if you have a website with a lot visits on hastgator, plan as soon as possible to change to another hosting service….

I switched my website to hostagor and paid something like 35$ for the whole year. Bu then I received the bill for renewal which was 125$ This is a total rip off of customers, so they think there are no competitor or something? OK if it was 45-50$ I would be fine still, but to increase the price almost 4 time this is too much…

I´ve been using hostgator for the past 6 years, and I believed it was the best hosting provider ever. But since January their support service has turned into a nightmare. I am considering changing to another provider. I´ve been locked out of one of my sites for over a month due to security issues and they still don´t answer my mails or solve anything.

Now they are a complete disaster.

I have 15 sites hosted with hostgator, but my primarly one is my bussiness website:

I have been with Hostgator for over 5 years, starting back when they were the best hosting company out there, hands down. After a recent takeover and buyout though they have quickly turned into one of the worst service providers I have ever had to deal with. We currently have 20+ accounts with HG several with dedicated and virtual servers, so we are no small 4$ users, and after spending hundreds of dollars a month, to have to deal with their downtimes, DDOS attacks, hacking, and poor customer service is a complete slap in the face. Unfortunately we are locked in on long term agreements and several high profile sites containing hundreds of GB of data, so simply ditching them and moving is NOT an easy task otherwise we would have already done it. We have had to have BBB step in and intermediate several issues already and HG shows no sign of change, for the better at least.

Hi,
I think Hostgator is a very professional hosting, I have been with them for almost a year. The stability of the server and the service is friendly and fast respond to make me satisfied, although only at a cost that is affordable.

But even though you can addon domain much as possible, there still is limited the number of files that you upload.

Comment from: Emily Visitor

Slow, inept service. The members area is incredibly overstuffed, badly put together and next to impossible to navigate. Often, to return to the main member menu, you need to login again, and again and again. Further, everything is severely overpriced, and much of it is more or less false advertising as it must be bought as an “add on,” and is not part of the package.

This is Farooq, Web developer from Techcybers. My experience with many hosting companies.

We were looking for a web hosting which supports more page speed. Page speed really matters for Google’s SEO and for our visitors too. Page speed depends upon our website codings and hosting.

We hosted our website in few of the top hosting companies which also mentioned in this website (I am not revealing their name), We were not at all happy with their page speed and support too.

After a research we found Hostgator and we hosted our company website in Hostgator VPS hosting. Currently our website give a good page speed. You can check this website which is hosted Hostgator: www.techcybers.com

Thank you!

The Business package is so awful.
I have up to 1000-2000 vistors a day and mostly from the states, it seems the bisness package cannot handle more than 32 visitors at one time before it is suspended by hostgator.
I have been with Hostgator for nearly 4 years, my business has grown, but Hostgator cant handle the pressure.

I’ve been hosting with HostGator for about 3 years now, and have been very satisfied with their service. Never had any downtime that I’m aware of. I’m very pleased with the unlimited disk space, bandwidth, and mysql databases. Their tech support is perhaps the best I’ve experienced yet (and I’ve been with BlueHost and 1And1 in the past, and while they offer more features, they also cost more too, and their customer support wasn’t as good as HostGator’s).

Now on to the problems/ cons:
I wish they would support Java applications. They can support Java applets that run from a web page, but that’s about it. I want to be able to launch a Java Application from the server when a page is loaded (if this is possible).

Second, I wish you could seperate your domains into their own folders, instead of creating add-on domains as subfolders/subdomains of the primary domain (this is one thing 1and1 handled nicely that I have difficulty with HostGator).

Third, i wish they offered a “reset” function where you can reset your hosting account (delete all files ,emails, etc) from within the cPanel, rather than having to contact support for this (but this isn’t something people do too often).

I have had my website hosted on Hostgator for almost two years now. It has always been up and I haven’t had any problems. I just upgraded to a reseller account to try my hand at that. Actually they are the best ever.
They always give me a perfect support, and solve my problems inside my vbulletin, really the support team is quit cool & perfect.
but I have a small problem with Inodes limits, it is too little.

anyway, I’m in love with Hostgator.

I have registered www.fulladupublishers.com with Hostgator since about 1 year and so far it was really excellent. For any problem I had I could solve it through the live online help or was sent answers by email. Always competent people on their side. No need for expensive calls - would technically not be possible for me anyway. I love the fantastico although it does not have the latest versions, but it is easy and safe. I am currently working on some online-magazine sites www.gamtam.com and did some experiments which all worked well. The email is also safe and fast. I am still hosting my blogs www.gambiatravel.aprox-online.de and www.tropicaldeli.aprox-online.de with strato.de but this is a hell of a problem, nobody to reach and expensive too. Looking forward to transfer all to Hostgator now. They are excellent. A big hand, thumbs up and keep it up.

A follow up:

I’ve been working with hostgator for awhile now to resolve a problem of addon domains being added in as subdomains of the primary domain, so I have addon.primarydomain.com.

This is fine for most uses, but I need an addon domain to be seperate from my primary domain. So far the solution has been to open another account. This is on about round 8.

The support guy, one of their major admins, is up with me at 10 PM at night and we’re in the same time zone. I think that’s awesome, but I’m also paying 7.95 a month for their services and don’t use much bandwidth.

For domestic stuff, hostgator.com is awesome. But they are not very flexible in what they’ll do. Fantastico rocks, their CP is awesome, and their prices are decent. On a student budget though, an additional 6.95 a month is the difference between clean sheets or not.

These guys are just awesome. I serve 200GB a month on my $8 plan and the uptime and performance are remarkable. Their support staff is professional and their response time is great. Don’t be fooled by the budget price, Hostgator is the real deal and they’re in a separate class from most of their competitors.

I’ve opened at least 5 tickets and the support is FAST and complete, and any follow up questions come within minutes. I could not be any happier, especially since I also run my own servers elsewhere and have to do all the admin myself. HostGator is a great deal and I will be staying as long as they can provide the service I need.

I own a website that provides a social networking aspect. We currently have roughly 5,000 members. We are redesigning our site and will be transferring to URL www.JiveWired.com. We have hired a publicist and we are paying a substantial amount for the redesign to compete with MySpace & Facebook. Of course we are going to consider all hosting solutions but it will be difficult for someone to sway me from HostGator. I wish that the cPanel was a little more user-friendly but it is by no means a pain. The service is platinum-standard and the price is very competetive. We use a dedicated server.

I am not a “power” user. My main concern is that my site works. I have been with HG for several years now and the value to me is the stability. I had the worst nightmares with previous providers that was so bad, I still have my main company’s home page my opening Web page to be sure it’s working. However, HG has proven that is not necessary. I have had occasion to deal with tech support and I have no complaints. We got it fixed. Sometimes it was me, sometimes it was them but it got fixed. Quickly and politely.

Hi there,

I have approximately 12 sites that I host with hostgator and can say that I have had no problems with them at all. The support is fantastic and the price is great. I get unlimited domains etc for about $10 / month. Very good option for your hosting needs and I recommend hostgator.

Decent company, but many features you have to request to be enabled. This is mainly so people don’t do stupid stuff.

Their support is decent, not perfect, but the pre-made packages are awesome.

To the user talking about the 404 pages, such as the mail.yourdomain.com, they’re modifiable. You don’t have to use their built in 404.

They’re above average for a webhost, but I don’t put them through their paces enough to say if they’re ‘excellent’ or not.

Sign up was the easiest I’ve experienced. I"d not used CP for about 10 years, but was quickly able to get setup and running. I’d switched because performance of my CMS on my old server moved out of ridiculously slow to embarrassing. I was worried about moving, but the free month up front allowed me to test my site out first and it runs fine! I’ve been a customer 30 days now and the one time I used customer service, I immediately connected to them and the person I chatted with was knowledgeable. I find there prices very competitive and have decided to maintain my account with them.

-Thanks HG

MP…. English man, we speak english…LOL

Host Gator’s customer service is probably the best I have recieved to date. But there is still some room for improvment. I am trying despratly to open my own store on the internet. Unfortunatly Hostgator has not been much help. Before I signed up I asked one of their sales people (via chat…which I love) about hosting a internet store. They reassured me it would be not problem. So I signed up… my package had no site builder so I was flying blind. After several chat sessions and Once inside site builder I realize that I do not have the eshop option inside the site builder. I call support again, to be told that the eshop option is no longer in site builder and that I would have to request it if I wanted it. “Are you serious"? I asked… It is a week later and a second request to cancel because I cannot afford all these stumbling blocks to be put in my way by my own host provider. So I am not looking for a new host provider. I just wish HostGator would have listened to me from the start when I said that I wanted to sell products ont he internet…. and made sure I had the right package.

I use to host with hostgator for two years. . but the service has changed dramatically since 2008. . . response time is too slow. . . they are overcrowding their servers with hosting plans. .. some are hosting more than 2000 domains. I checked mine and there were 1380 domains on the same server. . i know some might have low demand, but some might be very time consuming. . so even with 4G ram the server will suck! You can check domaintools.com and see some of their servers and how crowded they are.
Also the support is a catastrophe!!!! They need one day to reply to each email. . in the best case it’s 8 hours! so if your site is blocked, a discussion of 20 emails might hold your site down for a week!
they are not professionals and they should be taken out of the business! only we (users) can do that!

I have the same problem as dFlint. Hostgator changed all the cpanel and ftp passwords, and set up a system to issue new passwords. But that didn’t work for me & now I am locked out. To make matters worse, support won’t help me unless I can supply billing information, but I won’t have access to this information for at least a week. That means I’m locked out, and there’s nothing HG will do.

This is absolutely terrible customer service, and a complete waste of my time. I’m looking for hosting elsewhere.

Host gator is a pain in where you are sitting. THey just changed my passwords and now I am locked out. I think I will get it fixed but I have spent almost 2 hours on the phone and there chat trying to fix. I am sure they will post with an excuse about how this was to help customers but it was done it the wrong way and wasted my time. They don’t credit for the wasted time and their excuse should be kept internal because I don’t care. I would recommend this server if you have lost of time to waste.

I’ve hosted several sites with Hostgator in the past. I host nothing with them now. The reason I don’t is because their service has changed. One day I got a letter from them telling me they were going to update their servers, and after that my site starting having crappy response since. The pain was that my site was my Wordpress blog. Wordpress is very sensitive to hosting irregularities - so you best have a good host if you’re going to use this software for your blog. I had to go somewhere else and start all over again (I lost all my blog archives!):’(

I made the site fully functional with complete invoicing and automation in an evening.

There websites states:

“FREE Website Templates

We spent a fortune on these templates so you dont have to. You can use these templates on all of your domains hosted with us.”

BUT THEY LIMIT A CUSTOMER TO 15 A DAY. That information is not provided until you contact customer support, and it is misleading.

First, HostGator has the cheapest and most comprehensive plans available from anywhere I did research on.

Not only do they give you insane amounts of bandwidth and storage, they also give you so many free add-ons it would be impossible to install them all. I have never been with a host who has such a large variety of server apps available to their basic hosting customers.

I started as a shared plan, but now I moved onto the reseller plan and I’m currently hosting 6 sites of clients whom I manage their IT infrastructures.

Hostgator support is the best support I’ve received from any company, ever. They are fast and courtious and always side with you, so if you screw up badly, like I did at first, they will fix your issues and WONT CHARGE! Their transfers dept. is a little slow, and by slow I mean it took 2 days to get my account transfered to another server.. but that is nothing compared to other companies.

The speeds coming off my shared and reseller servers is FAST.. I haven’t reached the limit yet, but I assume its around 2MB/s.. thats right.. 15Mb/s download speeds.

Overall my experience with HostGator has been nothing but enjoyable… eventually I will be buying several reseller accounts to host my clients on and will stick with them in the future.

The only thing I don’t use HostGator for is Domain Registration, which I don’t recommend anyone using anything but a dedicated company for that.

My experience… (I’m a new Hostgator customer)

My partner bought a .info domain, in order to test Hostgator. Everything was fine. So I’ve decided to buy a domain and a reseller account for a .com domain. (And maybe I’ll buy a dedicated server in the future, if the Hostgator service continues OK)

Nevertheless, there was a problem that couldn’t be fixed yet.

Problem(s):

My partner has an account (a dot info) (shared hosting)

I have another account, (a dot com) (plan: reseller + dedicated IP)

PRB 1- the e-mail containing my welcome (order info) was inaccurate (there was no IP address on it to log on, The IP was replaced with “…")

Nevertheless, the problem was quickly solved by one online assistant. Btw, It seems that a problem with my user name trigged that bug/prb. (User names can’t have a “-” on it)

Problem 1 was fixed, but…

PRB2- This problem couldn’t be fixed:

My reseller account was (because of a typo) linked to my partner’s account. My .com is linked to my partners’ .info account.

And my unique IP address is linked to the wrong Hostgator account (again, my partners’ .info shared hosting).

I hope they can fix this soon, I can’t fix it. (I’ve tried)…

Warmest regards,
Safy :|

I am actually here to find a site to switch away from hostgator. They may have the largest amount of transfer for the price, but they did not tell me that there was a 2GB cap on the file size being transfered. I am making a 4.3GB file available for download. They wouldn’t work with me so off I go to find somebody who will. In addition to that there was whole disorganized debacle when they had server issues and support was like calling the IRS. You sit on hold forever to have some grumpy dude not know how to solve the problem. Overall, my experience sucked.
