1.10 : Upgrade now!

Permalink August 5, 2007 @ 09:53, by Francois Planque • Category: Development

Ok, version 1.10 has been out for 3 months now and it's been super stable for 2 months.

Now, I can't stress this enough: if you haven't done so yet, for your own good, please upgrade any prior version to version 1.10 now!

If you're running 1.8 or 1.9, it is very easy too!
1) Download the latest stable 1.10
2) Optionally save your current /conf/_basic_config.php file if you don't want to reconfig later.
3) Upload all the new files over the old ones
4) Optionally, upload your previous /conf/_basic_config.php file back
5) Go to /install and run the installer which will take care of upgrading/fixing a few details in the database.

Your 1.8 and 1.9 skins will work on 1.10.

Again, please trust me: you want to do that upgrade and you want to do it now. Not tomorrow and certainly not next week.

Note for those who are waiting for 2.0: we will indeed release a 2.0-alpha as soon as I find a desk to work on (I'm in the US until the end of the month with a super heavy schedule... and unfortunate shady hotels in between :P).

But this will be an alpha. It will be months before 2.0 gets as stable as 1.10. Plus the upgrade to 1.10 is super easy while the upgrade to 2.0 will not be so easy.

Did I mention that now is better than tomorrow? Seriously.

E. I. SanchezI took the plunge. There are a lot of new tabs and options. I'll learn them as I go along.

So far my skin worked out of the box and my plugins seems to be working alright.

I'm having a tiny issue with my technorati plugin but I'll post that in the Forum.

Good work and Long Live Version 1.10.

Edgar.

AndreasI am wondering why you mention it so often? Is the reason the "worm-problem"??

Nope, no worm problem. ;)

SharkyI am a bit scared. I use Blue Host and for some reason whenever I try to manually upgrade I get problems.

Fantastico works for me though. I am wondering when you will have 1.10 available through Fantastico on Blue Host.

Sharky, I have no control on Fantastico's releases, unfortunately.

I would suggest thought that you ask BlueHost. They are Fantastico's clients, so they could definitely get a little more pull than I would to have it upgraded. ;)

joeI took the plunge and want to thank you for so effectively nagging us... I was particularly worried because I was running 0.9.1.something and figured there was no way to keep the content there. The db upgrade worked perfectly... and I just reskinned it... now I'm updating CSS as I like and will release a new version of the b2evoMarkdown plugin soon. best, Joe

TimWhen I upgrade, will I lose all of my previous posts?
2007-08-14 @ 06:16
Comment from: Francois Planque [Member] Email
No, you will *not* lose your posts. Otherwise it would be called "new install", not "upgrade" ;)

When you use the installer in version 1.10, it will recognize the version of your existing b2evolution database and upgrade it into a 1.10 b2evolution database *without* erasing any existing data.

GaspyI keep up with the updates and I also encourage all users to do the same.

Just one thing - after upgrading from 1.9.3 to 1.10.2, some plugins didn't work anymore (capcha, star rating). I had to uninstall and reinstall them.

SharkySo, I contact Blue Host and they tell me that their hands are tied. That Fantastico itself needs to update its files...even "mighty Wordpress" is running an outdated version on Fantastico...

Long story short, I manned-up and did it manually.

You weren't kidding Francois, it was actually pretty easy.

Thanks Man.

Hi,

So far there have been 2 people positing here that they actually had a problem with upgrading. In both cases it seems pretty obvious that the problem was due to not upgrading all files to the latest version.

So let me say it again, you can keep your existing _basic_config.php if you have one (versions 1.6 and up) but you have to replace all other files with the new ones.

You can also keep your existing skin if it is recent enough (versions 1.8 and up).

The comments with problems have unrouteable email addresses, so I cannot help you guys personally. (Dare I be sarcastic enough to say that the required skill level to perform an upgrade is to be able to spell your own email address correctly? :> )

Furthermore, let me remind you the place for tech support is the forums, not here.

Anyway, seems that the upgrade process globally works extremely well (as long as you do upload all required files ;)

-Francois.
