b2evolution 1.8.5 (stable) "Oktoberfest" released

Permalink November 8, 2006 @ 00:02, by Francois Planque • Category: New releases

Daniel (blueyed) has worked through all of october to iron out as many bugs, quirks and glitches as possible from our previous 1.8.2 release. The result is so much smoother that it deserved a version bump to 1.8.5! ;)

This is a recommended upgrade for everyone. (If you already have a 1.8.x version, install is trivial: just replace the files and you're done. For previous versions, you need to run the included installer.)

Download 1.8.5 complete here.

A zip containing only changed files since 1.8.2 is available here.

Here's a quick rundown of the major fixes:

  • Fixed file upload restriction on allowed filetypes
  • Fixed Javascript in blog permission editing tab
  • Fixed Movable Type import tool
  • Fixed upgrade from b2/cafelog
  • Fixed fatal error in next_posts_link() if used on a non-item page, e.g. msgform
  • ldap_plugin: Fixed fatal error when setting group for new user
  • Do not override $db_config['connection_charset'], if set
  • Fixed possible fatal error during install (while collecting col_info for CREATE and DROP queries)
  • Plugin API: Added "app_min" dependency; Deprecated "api_min" dependency

And there are many more minor fixes too.

This version is now as stable as our trusted 0.9.2 stability reference. Good stuff. Go for it! ;)

Just upgraded. Without a hitch :-).

Daniel>Thanks for the great job. I read your response in the forum on the "invalid date while editing posts" error, but request a fix on that bug when you get the time. :-))

I was looking for a blog and came across yours. Initial test was disappointing, I then gave it a trial, it rocks! However, there appears to be a problem when one tries to login. On my local server I got a link like this that ends nowhere - http://localhost/africaservice/articles/index.php/links?disp=profile
&redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Flocalhost%2Fafricaservice%2Farticles%2Findex.php%3Fblog%3D4
Which means there is a problem with the redirect stuff and the way the code is generated.

Another itch that I noticed is when deleting a post, after delete it returns to default list, select the blog in which to delete post, it will select another blog, one would have to select the appropriate blog from the tab.

Thats good news at last ;-) Just one more question: Version 1.9.x has been in dev quite a while supporting timezones like +5:45 or 5.75. Is this a very complicated feature to backport?

Thanks and warm regards

(1.9 is downloadable on SourceForge, but it's a secret, don't tell anyone! :))

PS: where is it you have timezones like these? (15 minute differences?)

Upgrade procedure from 1.8.x to 1.8.y :

1. You replace the changed files.
2. You're done.

Actually there are a lot of timezones like -3:30, +3:30, Mine is +5:30 (India) and +5:45 example that I gave is Pakistan. Its just that for a software like b2evolution that supports so many regional locales unlike many others, its a little unusual to see no support for these timezones. And the bottom line is that when I set it up for anyone else this kind of a question could come up.

But as of now with 1.9.1 making it to the download section, I think my problem is solved. Thanks Francois
