b2evo 2.4.5 "Monument Valley" released [STABLE]

Permalink September 19, 2008 @ 03:05, by Francois Planque • Category: New releases

b2evolution 2.4.5 "Monument Valley" has been released!

In a nutshell: 3 months worth of bug fixes, a new skin (Glossy blue), additional skin template and widget params, enhanced display speed in backoffice and better URL handling of tag pages.

Download Here »

Also note that the new download page now includes links to download quick upgrade patches if you are already running 2.4.1 or 2.4.2. You have to scroll down though, I figured we would not want to have those displayed too high which might be confusing new users.

Upgrading from a previous 2.x version will only take you a couple of minutes. Skins from any previous 2.x version are compatible. Plugins from any 1.10.x or previous 2.x version are compatible. Version 3.0 will be an alpha release and will not be stable for a couple of months. We highly recommend you upgrade to 2.4.5. This guarantees your site is as secure as possibly be.

This version will also install a demo photoblog (as blog #4) for first time installers. If you already have b2evo running but would like to see it, check out the demo server.

2.4.5-stable "Monument Valley"

  • Search widget radio buttons are now optional.
  • New skin: GlossyBlue
(including support for default widget containers)
  • More skin template params
  • The installer now creates a demo photoblog
  • Enhanced backoffice display speed
  • More tag URL options
  • Enhanced URL resolution for categories and tags
  • Enhanced sitemaps
  • Fixed the bug where thumbnails are not created in skins when the viewer is not logged in
  • Additional bug fixes

Updating from 2.4.2 to 2.4.5 takes 30 seconds, great job!

I can't wait for the 3.0 release. ;-)

I like the more modular nature of b2evolution 2.4.5.

It makes sense to have a set of core features that can be extended with plug-ins to customize b2evolution to address multiple needs.

Notwithstanding, the main reason that I upgraded is for enhanced security which is of paramount importance when exposing resources to the wild of the Internet.

Thank you, b2evolution team, for all of the above.

I have no idea why I worry when i see upgrades. They are so easy. This one took less than 2 minutes. Back office is indeed faster. Thanks.

Gael, what exactly are you doing in '30 seconds'? I'm trying to update for the first time ever and it seems a very confusing process to me.

JLB, it all depends which version you are upgrading from! It takes 30 seconds if you are upgrading from 2.4.2. Otherwise it takes a little longer. What's confusing though?
