b2evo 1.8.7 AND 1.9.2 released!

Posted by fplanque on Jan 22, 2007 in New releases

Once again we have two sister releases: 1.8.7 "Tokyo" and 1.9.2 "Kyoto".

They both include additional security enhancements over the previous versions.

Although the addressed issues are not very likely to be exploited in a meaningful way, we still recommend that you upgrade for maximum security.

Version 1.9.2 "Kyoto" irons out the glitches remaining in the 1.9.x branch and we now consider 1.9.2 to be our new stable release. You may want to take this opportunity to upgrade to 1.9 if you're still using 1.8.x or an older version.

Download here!

We also have packages which only contain modified files:

  • upgrade-1.8.5-to-1.8.7.zip
  • upgrade-1.8.6-to-1.8.7.zip
  • upgrade-1.9.1-to-1.9.2.zip

Is there any file difference report for the 1.9.1 to 1.9.2 upgrade?
Cheers
John

Just upgraded… no problems there, though it still showed version number “1.9.1 beta” in the admin backend… so I checked the conf/ folder and saw that 2 files in there were updated too…
I uploaded them and everything worked, although it reads on your download page:

For example: upgrading from 1.9.0 to 1.9.2 only requires to replace the application files (attention: do not replace your /conf folder!).

Now that 1.9.2 is considered stable, how many of the hacks and plugins for 1.8.x will still apply. I’ve just spent the last 2 months hacking and pluging and everything in between, and I don’t want to just scrap what I’ve already got.

The diff packages are now available. See above.

In most cases, Plugins & Skins that worked on 1.8.x will also work fine on 1.9.x .

Of course, nothing can be said about “hacks” in general. Try the forums! ;)

@ Scott, Plugins seem fine.
Hacks are another matter but thanks to Francois, the diff file sure helps :)

Thanks Francois, Thanks John, I’ll give it a try and see how my hacks turn out.

Is there major changes b’ween 1.8.6 and 1.9.2 or would 2 hrs using WinMerge or BE be sufficient :-) ?

Hi,

Indeed, a diff between :
- 1.8.6 to 1.9.2
- 1.8.7 to 1.9.2

would be very usefull to see the impact between 1.8.x and 1.9.x stream.

Cheers, Jan

I’d also like to ask for a patch file between 1.8.5 and 1.9.2; that would really help! But more important is to know whether there have been any database changes between the 1.8 branch and the 1.9 branch. We’ve added a couple of extra fields to db tables, so we can’t easily change databases.

2007-01-31 @ 20:15

Comment from: fplanque

Yes! There have been numerous changes between 1.8.5 and 1.9.2, both in the DB and the files, otherwise 1.9.2 would just be called 1.8.8 or something.

For most people, upgrading from the one to the other without the normal upgrade procedure will be asking for trouble.

Now, if you think you can still do without the installer, then you definitely have to be tech savvy enough to make your own diff between 1.8.x and 1.9.x. It only takes a couple of minutes if you know what you’re doing. Otherwise…

I think that providing that diff for everyone to hurt themselves with it would be a bad idea. This is why we have an upgrade procedure and an installer that can upgrade.

Again 1.8.x to 1.8.y is a *minor* upgrade.
BUT 1.x to 1.y is a *significant* upgrade.
(and 1. to 2. will be a *major* upgrade.)

Is there documentation anywhere of the changes which have been made to the database structure? If we run an install of 1.9.2 and point it at the old database, will it also import our added fields, or will those be dropped?

Okay, how about a package or instructions for going from 1.8.x (1.8.6 in my case) to 1.9.2 ?

God Bless you, Francois. :) By the way, THANK YOU for the new SPAM filtering. Hardly anything even gets into draft mode now.

May sound like a silly question but with upgrading from 1.9.1 to 1.9.2 is it just a matter of replacing the changed files and uploading them?

Any other installation instructions needed?

2007-03-06 @ 02:14

Comment from: Cooper Tonks

Cooper Tonks

Because the upgrade from 1.9.1 to 1.9.2 means only downloading the files that will be changed the instructions in the “docs” section under “general Procedure"of this site doesn’t explain what to do with the partial files.

Thanks

Is there an easy upgrade or modified only files from 1.8.2 to current?

I’m running 1.8.5. Could I just simply upgrade to the latest 1.10 by downloading 1.10 and running the install script?

The list of features and fixes makes it look like there are no DB changes.

Edgar,

Comment from: fplanque

There are DB changes to fix issues with long posts being truncated.
The install script takes care of the DB changes.

I’m running version 1.8.7. I don’t see a 1.8.7 to 1.9.x upgrade.

* upgrade-1.8.5-to-1.8.7.zip
* upgrade-1.8.6-to-1.8.7.zip
* upgrade-1.9.1-to-1.9.2.zip

Should I just download 1.9.3 and install that?

2007-05-19 @ 23:50

Comment from: fplanque

Yes! You actually *never* need a special upgrade file. These are only for people who want to download only the modified files between *minor* revisions.

Hi there! I’m running v.1.8.5 with a little mod, is there any way to upgrade straight to 1.9.3 without going all the inter versions?

Thanks!

Yes, all you need to do is install 1.9.3 (with option upgrade) then reapply your little mod.
