i think blogs should be open to everyone. if ppl have to join before they can comment, there are lost lot of ppl who could write a good comment but don't like to join.

That would be why I asked for it as a "choice" and not as a default. I think some people (including me) would choose that option.

In my case (as well as in others on the forum since I quoted a thread with a request from another user) there can be reasons why I would want someone to have given me contact information first.
