I was trying to install from b2e 6.xxx to the 7.2.3.... it was hanging on backing up the inc/ directory so I just left it. When I came back, it had timed out and now it's kind of stuck. When I go to /admin.php I get a message:

Database schema is not up to date!
The b2evolution files are present on your server, but it seems the database is not yet set up as expected.

This is b2evolution version 7.2.3-stable.
You cannot use the application before you finish configuration and installation.
Database schema is not up to date!
You have schema version «13075», but we would need «16170».
Please use the installer to finish your configuration/installation now.
On most installations, the installer should be here (but I can't be sure since I have no config info available! :P)

The hyperlink at "here" takes me to /install/index.php but when I go there, I get:

503 Service Unavailable
System upgrade is in progress. Please reload this page in a few minutes.

Site administrators: please view the source of this page for details.

So I'm not sure how to proceed from here.

<!--
If you need to manually put b2evolution OUT of maintenance mode, delete or rename the file
/conf/maintenance.html or /conf/imaintenance.html or /conf/umaintenance.html .
The presence of any of these files will make b2evolution show it is in maintenance mode.

WARNING: If you just had an upgrade fail in the middle of it, it is a very bad idea to just
get out of maintenance mode without immdiately restoring a DB backup first. Continuing without
a clean DB may make it impossible to ever ugrade your b2evolution in the future.

Given my specific situation, is restoring the db the proper step to fix this or is there something simpler?

Hi how did you try to install . . .

  • Ftp overwrite of existing files
  • b2evo auto update
  • hosted apps via 'whatever they use

??

2... I used the auto-update built into the b2evo web gui.

Yes I had this problem a number of times using auto so I generally manually upload all the files by ftp..

Even if that gets you past that /install ~database issue you may have /and may be related / problems with php 7.4

Currently I am using php 7.3 and am about to update to 7.4 and but have other more entertaining things to do.

I can drop PHP to v7.3 for just this site. That's not a problem.

So is your advice to:

1) upload the files via FTP over the existing install
and
2) downgrade PHP to 7.3

?

Just want to clarify/confirm before proceeding. Thanks

I wouldn't call it advice as such but it is what I would do. But then it's my own site, server etc I can spend a lot of time trying to sort things out.

I'm not an official b2evo person just a user like you.

Hopefully you keep back ups of your database before you try to upgrade etc.
